Baoji University of Arts and Sciences (BUAS) is a full-time, multi-disciplinary institution of higher learning under the jurisdiction of the provincial government. It includes such disciplines as liberal arts, history, philosophy, natural sciences, engineering, management, law and education with teacher training as its focus. It was founded in 1958, first as Baoji University. It granted Bachelor's degrees, but was closed down due to local economic problems in 1963. In 1975 a branch school of Shaanxi Normal University was established on the site of the old Baoji University. In 1978 this branch school became Baoji Teacher's College.
